We just recently took home 1st place back and/or chest piece at the 2011 S.T.A.A.R. (Star of Texas Annual Art Revival) convention in Austin, Texas. This was for a backpiece consisting of an underwater scene with a mermaid, on a very dedicated and one of my favorite clients, Kathleen Black. This was her first time entering her piece in competition, and my first time entering a piece that large as well. Needless to say she was nothing but smiles, and i think that is what clinched the award for us. Thanks Kathleen, I couldnt have done this without your dedication to the craft, and hopefully this is the first of many trophies we take home for your epic back piece!!
I also took home 1st place best large color at the 2011 Body Art for paul tadlock's wolf skull / cavalera skull and phoenix with flame back ground.
We cant forget about the trophy that Dave and Rebecca Mankin showed up on my doorstep with for 1st place Best portrait. The trophie is an awesome little spot welded construct of a tattoo machine with some nifty pin-striping on it. I dont think they wanted to give it up, to tell you the truth, but i am ever so gracious they did. Thanks Yall!
And of course my slew of 2nd places from Immersed in Ink for ink of the day and best large color, which was for a 3 man collaborative effort, of my artwork and Ronnie Hadley, Chris Thomas, and I tattooing this poor depraved soul's calf for 4 hours (12 man hours) ... Kudos to ya kenny ... you're a tough cookie.
